Licences and usage permits

Every file on the site is sold under a licence. The licence says what you may do with the file and with the pieces you make from it. Buying a file buys permission to use it, not ownership of the design; the design stays its designer's.

Licence or usage permit?

Licence

The agreement the seller chooses for each product, named on the product page and in the cart. It is what binds.

Usage permit

The list of things that licence lets you do — "print it for yourself", "make and sell pieces". The "usage permit" filter in the catalogue only helps you find files; where it and a product's licence differ, the licence wins.

Usage permit

Unlimited (legacy catalog) Making and selling pieces from the file

Making and selling pieces is allowed; selling the file is not.

Full terms
This file comes from the previous DTS Land shop and keeps its original terms:
• Unlimited downloads: as often as you need, with no expiry, from "My purchases".
• Unlimited use: make, print, cast and sell as many pieces made from it as you like.
• Reselling or redistributing the file itself (or a modified copy of it) as a file is not permitted.

Personal use

Print or cast the file for yourself, to keep or to give as a gift. Making pieces to sell is not allowed under this licence.

Best for: Buyers making a piece for themselves, family or a gift; students and hobbyists.

  • 3D printing and casting for personal use
  • Giving the finished piece as a gift (unpaid)
  • Resizing and adjusting the design for yourself
  • Posting photos of the piece on personal social media

Commercial use Making and selling pieces from the file

Make pieces from the file and sell them — in a workshop, a shop or online. The file itself may not be sold or passed on.

Best for: Workshops, jewellers and makers who sell the finished pieces.

  • Making and selling pieces (printing, casting, workshop production)
  • Making pieces to a customer's order
  • Adapting the design for production (size, stone setting, engraving)
  • Using photos of the finished piece in ads and shops

Extended licence Making and selling pieces from the file

Everything the commercial licence allows, plus using the file inside a digital product or file pack you sell.

Best for: Large producers and anyone building the design into their own digital product or collection.

  • Everything the commercial licence allows
  • Mass production with no piece limit
  • Using the design in a digital product or pack you sell
  • Modifying and combining the design with others

Frequently asked questions

Do I own the design once I buy the file?

No. You buy permission to use the file under its licence; the design stays its designer's.

Can I sell pieces under a personal licence?

No. A personal licence is for making a piece for yourself or as a gift. To sell pieces, buy a file with a commercial licence.

May I send the file to a workshop or caster?

Yes, only to make your own piece. The workshop must not keep, reuse or pass on the file.

If I modify the design, can I sell the new file?

No. A modified file is still based on the original design, and selling or publishing it is not allowed unless the licence says so.

How is the "usage permit" filter different from the licence?

The filter only helps you find files. What binds is the licence named on the product page and in the cart.

Who decides the licence?

The seller picks one of the site's licences when listing the product, and the site keeps its text the same for everyone.
